Jeffrey L. Easton | Founder, Managing Director

Jeffrey L. Easton is the founder and Managing Director of The Lind Partners. He has over 15 years of experience in the funds management business. In 2009, Jeff co-founded SpringTree Global Investors, a New York-based institutional investment firm. He has since been instrumental in developing and implementing an institutional investment platform that has made investments across a wide range of industries including biotechnology, healthcare, oil & gas, coal and other natural resources. Prior to SpringTree, Jeff was the founding partner of Broad Street Capital, a boutique hedge fund designed to take advantage of market volatility while investing in small capitalization companies. Prior to that, he was an independent trader in small to micro-cap equities utilizing the Broadway Trading’s platform. While there, he also financed, mentored and directed his own successful trading group. Jeff is an active angel investor in several successful ventures including Axioma and Kickstarter and has been featured in several media publications including a cover story in the Wall Street Journal. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.

Phillip Valliere | Partner, Managing Director

Phillip Valliere is a Partner and Managing Director at The Lind Partners. He joined Lind at its inception and has been instrumental in the firm’s development and leads Lind’s investment efforts in Canada. Mr. Valliere has over 17 years of asset management and investment banking experience in New York City and, over the past three years, he has been involved with institutional funds that completed more than 35 investments into junior public companies in mining, oil & gas, biotech and clean-tech, totaling more than $385 million in transaction value. Prior to Lind, Mr. Valliere was an Executive Vice President & Director of Business Development at SpringTree Global Investors, LLC, a New York-based institutional investment firm. Previously, he was a Vice President at a New York-based hedge fund which he helped grow from $25 million to $2.2 billion AUM, at its peak. During his tenure, he founded and led the oil & gas group and was instrumental in completing more than $450 million of investments into growth-oriented companies in the US, Canada and the UK by utilizing public equity, private equity, convertible debt, mezzanine, senior debt and subordinated debt. Prior to, he worked his way up the ranks from Analyst to Senior Associate in the Corporate Finance Group at Benedetto, Gartland & Co., a New York-based boutique investment bank, founded in 1988, focused on M&A, corporate advisory and private capital fundraising. During his tenure, he was mentored by some of Wall Street’s brightest investment bankers from Kidder Peabody and Dean Witter and executed more than $1.5 billion of transactions involving small-cap, middle-market and Fortune 500 companies, including Monsanto, Merck KGaA, Corning, Dominion Resources, Omnicom, Kohlberg & Co, American Health Properties, ARV Assisted Living and Donna Karan. Mr. Valliere received a B.S. in Business Administration (Concentration in Finance) from the University of New Hampshire in 1995 and attended Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea as part of his undergraduate studies.

Arlene Brownstein | Chief Operating Officer

Ms. Brownstein began her industry career in May 1986 when she joined Goldman Sachs & Co. She was associated with Goldman for over 9 years, until September 1995. From September 1995 until December 1998, Ms. Brownstein, while pursuing her PhD in mathematics education, was a Research Assistant/Teaching Fellow at New York University. From September 1996 until December 1998, she was an Adjunct Instructor of statistics and mathematics at the Parsons School of Design. In November 1996 Ms. Brownstein joined Oscar Capital Management, LLC, an asset management firm where she served as that company’s Director of Operations. When Oscar Capital Management was acquired by Neuberger Berman, one of the largest fund management groups in the U.S., in November 2001, Ms. Brownstein became an Operations Director at Neuberger Berman, LLC, an investment adviser and securities broker-dealer. From March 2005 until July 2009, she was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at SkyBridge Capital, an alternative asset management firm, and President and Chief Financial Officer of its affiliated Broker Dealer, Hastings Capital Group. She served as the Chief Operating Officer of SpringTree Global Investors, LLC from January 2010 until joining Lind. Ms. Brownstein holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Arts (Mathematics Education) from New York University, which she earned in June 1994.

Samuel Chun, CFA | Investment Analyst

Samuel Chun is a Senior Investment Analyst at the Lind Partners. Prior to Lind, he was an investment analyst at Springtree Global Investors, LLC, a New York based institutional investment firm. Prior to that, he held internship positions at S-Network Global Indexes, LLC, a New York based developer of proprietary and customer indexes, and the Good Bankers, a Tokyo based independent investment advisory firm with a focus on socially responsible investments.

Mr. Chun is a CFA charterholder. He received his B.S. in Finance and Statistics with a minor in East Asian Studies from the NYU Stern School of Business. As a part of his undergraduate studies, he attended Peking University in Beijing, China and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in Dalian, China. He speaks fluent Korean along with intermediate Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. 

Advisors/Consultants

John Hancock | Consultant

John Hancock is an Australian National and will consult to The Lind Partners with regard to capital raising and  investments in the Australian resources sector. Mr Hancock has held positions at Iscor Mining and Steel (South Africa), Hancock Prospecting (Director) and is currently a non-executive Director of Volta Mining (ASX:VTM) . Mr Hancock has over 20 year’s experience in the resources industry (iron ore), financial markets, public relations and capital raising. In his role at Hancock Prospecting Mr Hancock introduced the Hope Downs Iron Ore Project at the Global Iron Ore and Steel Conference in Berlin 1997, and went on to gain operational and marketing experience at both successive JV partners to the project- Iscor and Rio Tinto. Hope Downs now produces over 30 million tonnes of iron ore per annum with annual revenues approximately $3b. Mr Hancock has run a private fund for 15 years, with trading and investment experience in the resources sector, currencies and derivatives.

Martin Rogers | Senior Advisor

Martin Rogers is an Australian National and a recent addition to the Lind Partners team. Prior to joining Lind, for five years Mr. Rogers was the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Prima BioMed Ltd (ASX:PRR, NASDAQ:PBMD), a leading Australian biotechnology company working towards commercialising CVac ovarian cancer vaccine. During Mr. Roger’s tenure, Prima grew from AU$2 million to nearly AU$400 million market cap. Mr Rogers has experience in all aspects of financial, strategic and operational management and has raised over $100m in equity. He has been both an investor and senior executive in a private funded advisory business in the science and biotechnology sectors, where he was instrumental in significantly increasing the value of those investments. Mr Rogers also holds a number of not-for-profit roles and is on the management committee of the National Breast Cancer Foundation and a Council Member at the University of Sydney Physics Foundation and International Science School. He has previously been involved in the origination of a number of new business concepts and the establishment of internal ventures and external partnerships, including finance concept origination in the corporate banking sector for institutions such as Macquarie Bank.

The Advisory Board is not part of the investment committee and is not responsible for the ultimate decisions of the Manager.
